Orange County, New York, is currently accepting applications for its Open Space Fund to support land conservation efforts that align with the goals outlined in the Orange County Open Space Plan, the Comprehensive Plan, and the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan.
The fund is designed to help finance projects that preserve open space through fee simple purchases, development rights, or conservation easements. It also covers eligible closing or stewardship costs. The program offers matching support for up to 50% of the purchase price, but this cannot exceed 50% of the appraised value of the property.
Applications are subject to an established review process and must meet specific evaluation criteria. Projects funded by the program must follow detailed guidelines for the long-term maintenance and monitoring of the acquired open space.
Eligible applicants include municipalities—such as towns, villages, and cities—qualified not-for-profit organizations like land trusts, and individual property owners. However, properties already acquired for open space or agricultural protection are not eligible for additional funding under this program.
The application deadline is September 19, 2025.
