The goals of this program are to:
- Better understand community food security in Hawai’i County
- Support the identification of community-based solutions, current projects, and programs that contribute to food security
- Support areas for investment that actively increase community food security and economic resilience within the County of Hawai’i.
Priority will be given to projects that increase cold, dry, or freezer storage, as well as equipment and supplies that expand the capacity and resilience of existing food security programs and services.
Funding Information
A total of $50,000 will be allocated to each of Hawai‘i Island’s nine districts – North Kohala, South Kohala, Hāmākua, North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna, Ka‘ū, North Kona, and South Kona – with an additional $50,000 available in a general pool for high-scoring applicants countywide. Grants will be awarded up to $25,000 per organization, with additional funds available for collaborative partnerships.
Eligibility Requirements
The following entities are considered eligible beneficiaries to receive grant funding:
- Nonprofit organizations
- Must have been active since at least March 1, 2020.
- For collaborative applications involving more than one non-profit, only the lead non-profit must have been in operation before March 1, 2020.
- Unincorporated organizations, community associations, or other entities.
- Must be fiscally sponsored by an existing non-profit that meets the following criteria:
- Has 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) status
- Has been active since at least March 1, 2020.
- Households
