This grant funding opportunity is a component of the County of Hawai‘i’s Improving Community Food Security Program, which is being administered by The Food Basket. The goals of this program are to:
- Better understand community food security in Hawai’i County
- Support the identification of community-based solutions, current projects, and programs that contribute to food security
- Support areas for investment that actively increase community food security and economic resilience within the County of Hawai’i.

There is a total of $500,000 available.
Grant Period
Grant funds will be distributed by Dec. 1, 2025, and must be spent by June 30, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
The following entities are considered eligible beneficiaries to receive grant funding:
- Nonprofit organizations
- Must have been active since at least March 1, 2020.
- For collaborative applications involving more than one non-profit, only the lead non-profit must have been in operation before March 1, 2020.
- NOTE: Certain tax-exempt entities that are not required to obtain an official IRS tax-exempt determination (e.g., churches, religious organizations, etc.) are eligible for grant funding, as long as all other eligibility requirements are met. In this case, eligibility will be verified on a case-by-case basis.
- Must have been active since at least March 1, 2020.
- Unincorporated organizations, community associations, or other entities
- Must be fiscally sponsored by an existing non-profit that meets the following criteria:
- Has 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) status
- Has been active since at least March 1, 2020.
