The purpose of this grant is to provide professional development, technical assistance, and other farm to school support services to schools and early childhood programs across the state. This grant opportunity is specifically designed for non-profit organizations that will help several schools or early childhood programs start or expand their farm to school programs.
Farm to school support services include, but are not limited to:
- Local procurement technical assistance
- Meal program technical assistance
- Curriculum integration technical assistance
- School gardens technical assistance
- Nutrition education technical assistance
- Farm to school coaching services
- Farm to school trainings, workshops, and professional development
- Farm to school resource development, maintenance, and dissemination.
Objectives
- Enhance farm to school support services so that resources, training, and technical assistance are widely available and accessible across the state
- Encourage collaboration and coordination between service providers across the Vermont Farm to School and Early Childhood Network
- Support regional coordination of farm to school efforts and meet regional demands for farm to school services
- Fund a mix of statewide and regional projects
- Fund a mix of project beneficiaries, including educational institutions with earlystage farm to school programs and educational institutions with more robust and integrated farm to school programs
- Fund a mix of project scales, including projects that serve a smaller number of educational institutions with deeper impact and those that serve a larger number of educational institutions with a lighter impact.
Funding Information
A total of $200,000 is available through this competitive funding opportunity. The minimum award for this grant program is $10,000 and the maximum award is $40,000.
Grant Period
Grantees will have up to 18 months to complete projects.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following entities are eligible to apply for this competitive grant:
- Non-profit organizations located in Vermont.
- Applicants that previously applied for and/or received funds from the Farm to School and Early Childhood Grant Program can re-apply for funding. Applicants who are current or previous grantees must explain whether the proposed project builds on previous work or is a separate project, as well as demonstrate how continued funding will be used to grow or improve the program. An applicant may submit multiple proposals in one application round, as long as each application is for a separate and distinct project.
