Abiding by the structure and bylaws of the Governor’s Crime Commission, the Chair for the Criminal Justice Improvement Committee appointed a subcommittee for a new grant stream with advice and guidance from the Governor’s Office and Secretary of Public Safety. Experts in several fields were listed to ensure a diverse and productive board. Appointments were then made to the State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) Advisory Board. This Advisory Board is assigned to . The SCIP Advisory Board is assigned to reviewing, evaluating, and making recommendations to the full Commission and the Governor on what projects should be considered for funding out of the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) funds.
In the last several years, there has been a change in how public safety funding is allocated nationally and statewide. World-wide pandemics, civil unrest, legislation, increase in population have all impacted the direction of criminal justice needs in North Carolina. The Committee will strive to make decisions that are equitable and fair. It will strive to look at national and state priorities as well as ever changing needs in criminal justice. It will debate, discuss, and decide what it believes is the best for the entire state of North Carolina given the current funding and applications.

Eligibility Criteria
- Public (government) agencies, such as criminal justice agencies, include law enforcement, prosecutor offices, courts, corrections departments, probation and paroling authorities.
- Tribal governments may be required by certain funding sources to be federally recognized as having a government-to-government relationship with the United States, with responsibilities, powers, limitations, and obligations attached to that designation.
