The Rural Housing Service (RHS), part of the USDA’s Rural Development (RD) agency, is now accepting applications for its 2025 Community Development Initiative (RCDI) program. This program aims to assist qualified private organizations, nonprofit organizations, and public or Tribal intermediary organizations in carrying out financial and technical assistance programs to enhance housing, community facilities, and economic development in rural areas.
The RCDI program requires the intermediary grantee to provide a package of financial and technical assistance to recipients, who will, in turn, implement community development programs for rural residents. The goal is to promote sustainable growth and improve the quality of life in rural communities.
The total funding available for the program is $5,000,000, with individual grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000. Grant funds must be used within three years of the award date.
Eligible applicants include private institutions of higher education, public housing authorities, nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status, small businesses, Native American tribal organizations, and various government entities, including city or township governments. The application deadline is August 7, 2025.
