DMPSJ announces the availability of up to $1 million in Fiscal Year 2026 grant funds for the Safe and Secure DC Nonprofit Fund. The grant will improve and increase the physical/cyber security and facility/target hardening of nonprofit organizations’ facilities at risk of a terrorist of other extremist attack, safeguarding the lives and property of District residents and visitors. All grant activities must be linked to enhancing the security and safety at the physical site of the nonprofit organization. This grant will prioritize preparedness activities of nonprofit organizations that are at high risk of a terrorist or other extremist attack with broader state and local preparedness efforts.
The purpose of the grant will fund the activities implemented by nonprofits in three focus areas (enhancing the protection of soft targets/crowded places; planning; and/or exercises and training):
- Enhancing the Protection of Soft Targets/Crowded Places
- Planning
- Exercises and Training.
Eligible Funding Uses
Grant award funds may be used to pay for the costs of:
- Salary and fringe benefits for term or contract employee(s) responsible for performing protection and enforcement functions for the organization (e.g., special police officers, security guards, off duty law enforcement officers);
- Equipment, training, training materials, uniforms, first aid and other medical materials and equipment, and other materials and equipment for purposes of implementing the Program;
- Other specific and approved costs that support improved public safety pursuant to the Program plan.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants and Program proposals must meet the following requirements to be considered eligible for a grant: Community-based non-profit groups and organizations in Washington, DC are eligible to apply.
- DMPSJ reserves the right to award funds under any available funding source, regardless of the applicant’s designated selection(s).
