Stream Corridor Management Pilot Program – New York

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (Department) and the New York State Soil and Water Conservation Committee (State Committee) is inviting New York State County Soil and Water Conservation Districts (Districts) to apply for funding to the Stream Corridor Management Pilot Program.

Details:

Funds are available for creating healthy stream corridor systems that will improve water quality, reduce erosion and sedimentation, improve wildlife habitat, and support the long-term health of the natural environment. Applications must be for ONE of the following:

  • Track 1: Stream Channel Restoration;
  • Track 2: Stream Corridor Protection – Riparian Buffer Implementation;
  • Track 3: Storm Water Culvert and Roadside Runoff Control; OR
  • Track 4: Public Outreach and Education.

The goal of this program is to improve water quality, reduce erosion and sedimentation, improve wildlife habitat, and support the long-term health of the natural riparian ecosystems. Funding from this program will support activities that improve or protect stream corridors, including stream stabilization, establishment of riparian buffers, and the reduction of roadside erosion and sedimentation due to runoff and failing culverts systems.

    • Funding available: $270,000
    • Max. Award Amount: $50,000
  • Track 3: Storm Water Culvert and Roadside Runoff Control
    • Funding available: $850,000
    • Max. Award Amount: $100,000
  • Track 4: Public Outreach and Education
    • Funding available: $30,000
    • Max. Award Amount: $10,000.

Eligible Projects

Eligible projects must be located within New York State. Preference will be given to projects within the Great Lakes Watershed and direct drainage to the ocean.

All proposed projects must meet the following criteria to be evaluated and scored:

  • The project must fit appropriately within one of the four funding Tracks.
  • The project must improve or protect water quality.
  • The project must have the capability of being completed and invoiced within three years of the contract start date.
  • The project must be consistent with New York State guidance and NRCS standards as appropriate.
  • The project must have defined measurable outcomes and deliverables. If applicable, measurable sediment and/or nutrient reduction must be estimated at time of application.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants are NYS County Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Districts are not limited to the number of applications that may be submitted, but each application must be for a single project and only one Track. Districts may submit separate applications for more than one Track, including separate applications for the same project site. Only one application per Track may be submitted for a single project site. A project site includes adjacent property, even if it is owned by a different person or entity.
