The Capacity Building Program, offered by the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation, provides grants to help strengthen local nonprofits by enhancing their organizational effectiveness. The program focuses on building internal capacity so that organizations can expand their impact in the communities they serve.
Grants aim to support a range of improvements, including stronger governance and leadership, upgraded staff skills, better management systems, completion of strategic plans, enhanced or expanded services, and growth in key strategic assets such as finances and personnel.
Funding requests of up to $15,000 will be considered. The application deadline is August 1, 2025. While the grant duration is not specified, selected projects are expected to create measurable improvements within the organization.
Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving communities where Middlesex Savings Bank operates. These include towns and cities across Massachusetts such as Framingham, Natick, Worcester, Newton, and many others. Projects must benefit people who live or work in the area, and while local impact is prioritized, broader regional projects that include these communities may also qualify.
Organizations may only apply once per calendar year. If a proposal is rejected, the organization may reapply the following year. If approved, they must wait until the second calendar year after funding to apply again.
The Foundation does not fund political or sectarian activities, and it will not provide funding to organizations that operate through a fiscal agent.
