The Grassroots Grant, managed by the North Carolina Arts Council and distributed through local arts councils like the Watauga Arts Council, supports high-quality programming in performing, visual, literary, and traditional arts across North Carolina. This grant aims to fund arts organizations, arts learning programs, and community initiatives led by qualified artists.
Funding generally ranges from $800 to $3,000, primarily allocated based on population through local arts councils. Eligible uses include operating support for arts organizations, artist residencies in schools, after-school and adult arts learning programs, and other community arts experiences.
To qualify, organizations must have been operating for at least one year. While 501(c)(3) nonprofit status is preferred, nonprofits without formal incorporation may apply with a fiscal sponsor. Eligible applicants include theaters, symphonies, galleries, arts festivals, and more, but organizations already receiving direct operating support from the N.C. Arts Council are not eligible.
Applications are due by August 18, 2025.
