Sprouting Fund’s Purpose

The main goals for the restructuring of the grantmaking and capacity building programs are to:
- Enhance equity and power in the grantmaking process and
- Strengthen the ability to support the emergence and growth of systemic change efforts of DC community organizing, advocacy, and healing justice groups
Foundation Fund
- They Fund mobilizing, organizing, and advocacy for and by young people. They support leadership building that focuses on political education, power analysis, movement building and actions around young people’s issues.
- They Fund mobilizing, organizing, and advocacy for and by previously incarcerated people. They support leadership building that focuses on political education, power analysis, movement building and actions around previously incarcerated people and their families.
- They Fund therapy (or other interventions) for grassroots organizers and community leaders of color who are actively building community power, providing political education, and advocating for progressive changes to the laws, funding, and administration of interventions that keep communities safe from gun violence.

Eligibility Criteria
- Led by people of color and focused on DC residents
- Building a community-led campaign with a clear analysis and plan to address systemic issues affecting their communities
- Transferring power and resources to directly affected communities
- Amplifying the leadership and voices of those directly affected by the issues and needs being addressed
- Employing approaches and strategies (like power building) to tackle problems at the root by engaging affected communities to find solutions, organize against oppression, and create systemic change
- Aligning with DC Fund values and funding priorities (Mobilizing, Advocacy/Organizing, Healing Justice & Liberation).
