Grants are facilitated by the Tennessee State Museum and will be reviewed until funding is exhausted. Successful grant applicants will propose books, pamphlets, or other media projects that support the mission of the Tennessee Semiquincentennial Commission, which is to promote an inclusive statewide celebration and educational commemoration of America’s 250th by interpreting and preserving Tennessee’s unique stories, objects, landmarks, and places across our diverse state that defined who we are as Tennesseans and Americans. The Commission has a statewide focus on Tennesseans and Tennessee events that have shaped American democracy from the Revolutionary era to the present.
Successful applicants will propose publications that support the mission of the Tennessee Semiquincentennial Commission, which is to promote an inclusive statewide celebration and educational commemoration of America’s 250th by interpreting and preserving Tennessee’s unique stories, objects, landmarks, and places across our diverse state that defined who we are as Tennesseans and Americans. The Commission has a statewide focus on Tennesseans and Tennessee events that have shaped American democracy from the Revolutionary era to the present. The Commission will consider:
- Works of non-fiction and biography based on primary sources and that reflect scholarly accuracy and completeness;
- Content that falls within the time frame from the Revolutionary era to the present;
- Completed manuscripts or manuscripts that are in the final stages of editing, submitted with the application;
- Publications with an identified publisher (applications must include letter of publisher support confirming its commitment to the publication and its preliminary plans for public distribution and promotion. Non-profit organizations may self-publish, which should be noted in the application materials); and
- Projects that have secured matching funding that is documented in the application.

Eligibility Criteria
The grants are open to county/municipality organizations, non-profit 501c organizations, and local historical societies, libraries, museums, and other applicable organizations. Individuals and for-profit businesses are not eligible to apply.
