The Town supports the community through grant opportunities to non-governmental organizations for projects and programs that align with the stated purpose of the Tobacco Tax and help further the principles and goals stated in the Strategic Framework and supplement municipal government operations to enhance quality of life for the community.
The tax revenues shall be used for the specific purposes of financing tobacco related education and tobacco related health issues, and addiction and substance abuse education and mitigation.

Funding Information
The Tobacco Tax Grant Program will award a total of $80,000 in 2026. The grant amounts will be capped at $10,000 per entity.
Eligibility Criteria
- The organization shall have a current tax-exempt status under Section 501C of the IRS Code
- Applicants must provide significant, measurable, and sustainable benefit to the Basalt community
- Applicants must be fiscally responsible with clear budgets, no past-due debts, etc.
Strong Tobacco Tax Grant Proposals Should Demonstrate the following:
- Funding requests must align with the stated purpose of the Tobacco Tax
- Funding requests help further one or more of the stated Strategic Framework goals
- Organization has a track record of effective outcomes in the Basalt community
- Use of funds is clearly articulated within overall budget/proposal
- Good planning is evident in the use of funds related to timetable, goals, staffing and sustainability
- Plans for evaluating impact are clear, appropriate, measurable and achievable
