Details:
The goal is that all clients visiting these pantries have access to nutrient rich dairy foods and, when possible, vegetables and fruit.
Food pantries may apply for a refrigeration unit, valued up to $7,000, to improve pantry infrastructure in support of the distribution of dairy foods and fresh produce. Grantees will also receive personalized technical assistance to enhance pantry operations and $250 in dairy match funding to purchase additional eligible dairy products for their community members. Equipment will be selected based on criteria completed on the grant application and will be purchased by UDIM through approved vendors.
Eligibility Criteria
- A food pantry staff member must complete the grant application.
- For purposes of this grant, a food pantry is a nonprofit organization that distributes groceries to individuals and families facing food insecurity.
- Organizations that provide prepared meals, for example, soup kitchens, supper clubs and meals at shelters and community centers aren’t considered food pantries under this grant.
- Previous Food Pantry grant recipients that received a refrigeration unit aren’t eligible.
- Food Pantry must be in Michigan.
- Food pantries submitting for this grant agree to procure, safely store and distribute dairy foods.
- Only fully completed applications submitted will be considered.
- All application responses are to be those of the applicant and not AI generated.
- All food pantries awarded will be required to submit program evaluations. Food pantries that fail to complete evaluation won’t be eligible for future.
