United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana grants are intended to initiate programs, projects, or activities that are innovative, new, or acutely needed funds for ministries that address one or more of four focuses:
- Equipping clergy and/or laity for ministry
- Ministries that are innovative to the entity proposing the program
- Fostering connections in the church, community, district, conference and beyond
- Disaster preparedness and response within Louisiana.
Priorities
Priority for substantial funding is given to:
- Collaborative efforts of multiple partners (especially multiple UMCs)
- Programs with long-term vision and outlined strategies for financial sustainability
- Projects that are not dependent on the Foundation as the sole funding source and/or who are investing their own financial resources
- Applications demonstrating thorough planning with examples like the following:
- Steps for project execution, timeline, tasks, responsible parties
- Demonstration of the need
- Clearly outlined goals
- Identified challenges and demonstration of capability
- Evaluation plan
- Letters of support
- Programs with potential for widespread impact, sustainability, and replicability
- Churches who invest with the Foundation
- Churches who are current on their Conference apportionments.
Funding Information
Grant awards have historically ranged from $1,000 to $70,000.
Eligibility Criteria
They welcome applications from:
- United Methodist Churches
- UMC-affiliated ministries
- The Louisiana Conference Office of the UMC
- UMC supported nonprofits
- Non-UMC 501(c)(3) organizations should demonstrate support from at least 2-3 United Methodist partnering churches
- Churches from other Methodist denominations who invest with the Foundation (for internal use).
