The Urban Agriculture Micro-Grant Program is a new funding opportunity administered by Cultivate KC and KC Black Urban Growers. It is made possible through support from the Farm Service Agency and a cooperative agreement with T.I.M.E. Inc. This grant program is designed specifically for growers operating within the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Unlike existing programs like the Get Farming Mini Grants and Just In Time Microgrants, this initiative has a separate application cycle, unique eligibility criteria, environmental review processes, and reporting requirements. The goal of the program is to help current growers expand their ability to produce food locally.
Grants are available for amounts up to $5,000 and are intended to be accessible to a wide range of urban growers. The program includes site visits and optional technical assistance to support applicants through the process. Eligible uses of the funds include land access such as assistance with down payments, leases, or rentals, as well as tools and equipment to expand or improve production.
Funds may also be used for infrastructure improvements like greenhouses, cold storage, or irrigation systems, provided any structural work complies with local building codes. Additionally, the grant can cover educational expenses like training registration and travel costs. Projects that support wider farmer services, including co-ops and shared resources like community greenhouses or equipment rentals, are also eligible.
Applicants must be located in the Kansas City metro area, specifically in the Missouri counties of Clay, Cass, Jackson, and Platte, or the Kansas counties of Leavenworth, Johnson, Miami, and Wyandotte. Eligible applicants include individual growers or small groups who produce food either for sale or for community benefit. The deadline to apply is August 19, 2025
