This year, YSA will award up to 100 grants. Grantees are required to engage at least 100 youth as volunteers in planning and implementing the service activities.

Grant funds may be used for:
- Supplies you need to complete your project. For example, you can purchase items such as lumber for pantries or garden beds, seeds to plant, or containers to transport meals;
- Recognition items and refreshments for volunteers that do not collectively exceed 40% of the awarded grant;
- Local transportation for youth doing service; and
- Postage, copying, and printing directly related to your project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Projects must be youth-led;
- Projects must include elements to honor and pay tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, and those who rose in service in response;
- Projects must take place on or around September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance (Friday, September 11, 2026) – between Friday, September 4 and Friday, September 18;
- Project organizers must make their best effort to recruit and engage youth volunteers who are not usually asked to serve; and
- Applicants must be based in the United States, and activities must benefit people in the United States. This includes American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington, D.C.
Ineligibility
Grant funds may NOT be used for:
- Food or supplies that will be directly donated to project recipients. Food or supplies that will be used to make meals or supplement a donation drive for a packing event are allowed. For example, you cannot purchase cans of food for a food drive, but you can purchase food that will be used to teach a budget-friendly cooking class;
- Expensive equipment that will only be used once. If the equipment will be used many times in the future, be sure to explain that in your budget;
- Direct payments to people, like hiring someone to speak at your event or staff salaries/stipends;
- Anything called “miscellaneous” that you do not fully explain;
- Funding of daily operations for ongoing programs or any long-range expenses not directly related to the proposed project; and
- Any AmeriCorps prohibited activities.
