Application Guidelines
The Whipple Foundation Fund advisory committee will consider the following issues as they deliberate and make grant recommendations to the OCF board:
- Libraries. The Fund wishes to support the reopening of libraries that used to be part of the Douglas County Library System. This includes support of individual libraries, efforts to collaborate, and efforts to work toward reestablishing shared collections. Ongoing operating support will be considered if there are clear plans that lead to sustainable funding from the community. While all libraries in Douglas County are eligible to apply, emphasis is placed on reopening the Mildred Whipple Library in Drain.
- Encouraging civic engagement and leadership development. The Fund intends to make an annual grant to the American Leadership Forum to support the participation of a Douglas County emerging leader.
- Early childhood programs from prenatal to kindergarten readiness. The Fund will place emphasis on funding strategic initiatives to address school readiness and healthy families in collaboration with other funders. This may include programs that support prenatal and women’s health, parenting education, child abuse prevention and school readiness.
