Women in Philanthropy (WIP) is an initiative of the Scranton Area Community Foundation dedicated to advancing opportunities for women, girls, and their families in the Lackawanna County region through community-driven grantmaking.
Since 2014, Women in Philanthropy supporters have invested more than $190,000 in local nonprofit programs, helping to strengthen families, expand economic opportunity, and create lasting change for women and girls across the community.
Focus Areas
Eligible projects for this grant must support the population of Lackawanna County, and must cover projects in one or more of the following focus areas:
- Childcare: Investing in accessible, high-quality childcare programs that strengthen family stability and foster children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development, while enhancing early childhood infrastructure through provider training, facility improvements, and other efforts to meet the diverse needs of families and children in the community.
- Civic Engagement and Advocacy: Supporting initiatives that empower women and girls to actively participate in public discourse, democratic processes, and community decision-making to create positive social change.
- Financial Education: Funding programs that equip women and girls with essential knowledge and skills in budgeting, saving, investing, and financial planning to achieve economic independence and security.
- Housing: Addressing women’s and girls’ needs for safe, stable, affordable housing through supportive services, advocacy, or homelessness prevention.
- Mental Health: Prioritizing services and programs that promote women’s and girls’ psychological well being through prevention, treatment, and recovery-focused mental health resources.
- STEAM Career Launchpad: Fostering girls’ engagement in STEAM educational initiatives, hands-on learning experiences or mentorship programs designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of female innovators in science and technology fields.

Grants are available for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations doing work in the following areas to engage, empower, and transform the lives of women and girls in the community.
