The purpose of this funding is to broaden their capacity to certify and license DC residents in the high-demand healthcare fields that have been identified as having a shortage and need of workers. The funding aims to improve access to healthcare services, promote equity, and create career advancement opportunities for District residents. It will cover tuition, examination fees, and other certification or licensure-related costs, ensuring participants can successfully complete their training and meet employment requirements.
Funding Information
The total funding amount of $1.3 million will be awarded to up to six (6) entities, to be determined based on the availability of funds and the demonstrated need.
Grant Period
The total project period of this award will be October 1, 2025 – September 30, 2026.
Eligible Expenses
Allowable activities under the High-Need Healthcare Career Scholarship Program may include providing:
- Quality training that includes classroom instruction, hands-on training, clinical placement, and exam registration
- Scholarships to cover tuition, examination fees, training materials, student stipends, emergency funding as needed, and other related expenses for participants pursuing licensure and certification
- Exam preparation through courses and resources for the necessary licensure and certification examinations to increase participants’ chances of passing
- Advertising/marketing material to bring awareness about the program to potential participants interested in high-need healthcare careers
- Uniforms, work shoes, textbooks, and other course related supplies that are essential for training and clinical placements.
Eligibility Criteria
The following are eligible organizations/entities who can apply for grant funds under this RFA:
Schools (non-profit/for profit) that provide education and certification for:
- Home health aides
- Certified nurse aide
- Emergency medical technicians
- Advanced emergency medical technicians
- Paramedics.
