San Marcos Community Foundation’s Arts and Cultural Grant (California)

Dated: March 24, 2022

The City of San Marcos and the San Marcos Community Foundation are currently accepting applications for its 2022 Art & Cultural Grant Program.

Donor Name: San Marcos Community Foundation

State: California

City: San Marcos

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 04/04/2022

Grant Duration: 5 years

Details:

The City of San Marcos has available funding to eligible organizations to stage artistic and cultural events or activities that benefit the San Marcos community.

The funding was established by a public art in-lieu fee in the Heart of the City Specific Plan; it was created to promote art and cultural initiatives that enrich the artistic and cultural vibe of San Marcos.

Applicant organizations must offer art/cultural events that promote the City of San Marcos and benefit its residents.  Applicant organizations must also have a history of producing art or cultural programming and have been in existence for at least one year.

Organizations requesting grant funds must be community-based, meaning at least 51% of the Board of Directors must be made up of San Marcos residents, San Marcos business owners, employees of San Marcos businesses, or a combination thereof.

Grant Period

Grantees may be eligible to apply for the same event or program for up to 5 years, subject to available funding and approval of the Foundation.

Eligibility Criteria

They welcome grant applications from all organizations that meet their criteria. To qualify for funding, grant requests must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • The representing organization must be exempt from income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and Section 23701(d) of the California Revenue and Taxation Code.
  • The request must be for a non-profit project or use directly benefiting the residents of San Marcos.
  • At the time of the funding, the Board will establish the timing of the reporting period and all records/receipts must be submitted to the SMCF no later than the timeframe established by the Board. Failure to comply with the deadline will result in the grant monies (partial or full) being returned to the SMCF immediately and may impact future awards.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Applications are evaluated on a competitive basis.  Applicants will be evaluated as to how they enrich the artistic and cultural vibe of San Marcos.
  • Receipt of the grant application will be confirmed by City staff, and staff may follow up with questions if justification is needed.  Applications are ranked by the following standards; applicant’s qualities, effectiveness, past performance, promotional value, outreach capabilities, along compatibility of the City’s image. Applicants are encouraged to address these standards in the application.
