Details:

Projects should demonstrate and encourage appropriate species and site selection, proper planting and maintenance, and advocacy for the future urban forest throughout Colorado. Funds will be awarded to projects that are completed to enhance existing community forestry programs or develop new community forestry programs.

Grants should demonstrate and encourage proper tree species selection and diversity, proper planting techniques and planting locations, and proper maintenance schedules and methods. They should demonstrate new programs or enhance existing ones in order to promote consistent future urban forestry efforts in your community. CTC Grants are available to all Colorado communities!

The CTC grants are made possible by the support and funding from the USDA Forest Service and the Colorado State Forest Service through the Urban and Community Forestry Assistance Act, providing for urban forestry education, technical assistance, and research. In Colorado, the Colorado Tree Coalition, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, administers the grant program with support from the Colorado State Forest Service.

Funding Available for:

  • Management/Maintenance Projects can include tree inventories, management plans, tree maintenance projects, and tree-related research. Examples of these types of projects include:
    • Structural pruning of young street trees 
    • Implementing/developing an invasive species management plan/program 
    • Developing a community tree care plan 
    • Collecting a complete or partial tree inventory 
  • Creating an emerald ash borer outreach campaign Tree Planting Projects can include the planting of a diverse species palette and using proper planting techniques along streets, in parks, at schools, and/or arboretums. Examples of these types of projects include: 
    • Planting new tree species/varieties in an arboretum 
    • Involving students at a school in the planting and care of new trees 
    • Replanting street trees in an older neighborhood where trees have been lost with the involvement of neighborhood residents 
    • Replacing ash trees with new species of trees as part of an overall emerald ash borer management plan Grant funds are intended for tree-related projects and community forestry promotional activities only. In general projects must be on public property, but projects on private property that provide public benefit and access are acceptable.

Funding Information

Applicants may request a minimum of $1,000 and a maximum $5,000 grant. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants shall meet the following criteria: 

  • State and local governments, school districts, community and neighborhood organizations, and private non-profit groups.
