The Oakland County Health Equity Council, in partnership with Pontiac Community Foundation, is providing mini-grants to address the ongoing systemic and racial health inequities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Details:

By partnering to provide organizations that meet the Health Equity Council’s funding priorities, the Oakland County Health Equity Council seeks to further support organizations that address the continued, demonstrated needs of Oakland County residents who experience the direct and indirect impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funds shall assist local organizations in accomplishing the following goals:

  • A reduction in COVID-19 disparities in impacted communities, specifically among Michigan’s five racial ethnic minority populations.
  • Planned reduction of community-identified priority risk factors, development and implementation of practices and policies to reduce health disparities and improve health outcomes.
  • Community-driven, not agency-driven, decision-making and priority setting.

Funding Priorities 

The Oakland County Health Equity Council Mini-Grant Program Review Committee seeks to fund proposals by organizations that are explicitly working to address racial and ethnic health disparities that were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and those that prioritize projects that address the Oakland County Health Equity Council’s priorities, including:

  • Transportation initiatives;
  • Food accessibility projects;
  • Projects that provide health care access;
  • Projects that reduce language barriers within communities to services, etc.;
  • Affordable housing projects; and
  • Projects focused on addressing mental and/or behavioral health concerns.

Organizations must be located in Oakland County and/or serve Oakland County residents in order to be eligible for funding.

Funding Information

The Oakland County Healthy Equity Council Mini-Grant Program will award up to 10 mini-grants, in the amounts of $5,000-$25,000 for a total amount of $159,000 granted to awardees.

Eligibility Criteria 

All organizations with 501c3 status are eligible to apply.

Funding Restrictions

Funding from the mini-grant program may not be used to fund the following expenditures: 

  • Food (Please Note-Funding from this mini-grant program may not be used to purchase food directly; However, you may use funding to support expenses related to food accessibility projects such as staffing support, outreach materials, cooking supplies or other applicable expenditures to support increased access to food options throughout Oakland County.)
  • Sub-awards or regrants
  • Research
  • Clinical care except allowed by law
  • Vaccine administration (coordination of vaccine administration is permissible)
  • Furniture or equipment
  • Lobbying and/or lobbying related expenditures.
