The Community Grants help existing organizations to continue with efforts to serve the community or to fund a new project within an existing organization.
Principles
Additional consideration will be given to Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC)-led organizations and organizations staffed by individuals with lived experiences relevant to the community served, ensuring decision-making power rest with those most impacted.
Funded projects should demonstrate a clear commitment to one or more of the following principles:
- Enhancing people’s skills and meeting basic needs, including education, workforce development, health, housing, food security, and access to essential services.
- Creating inclusivity by ensuring programs are accessible, culturally responsive, and welcoming to historically marginalized communities.
- Promoting justice and advocacy for individuals and communities facing systemic barriers or inequities.
- Driving purposeful, long-term change rather than short-term or one-time interventions.
- Advancing social and economic justice through community-led solutions and accountability.
- Dismantling structural racism by addressing policies, practices, and power imbalances that perpetuate racial inequities.
- Eradicating systemic poverty through sustainable strategies that address root causes, not just symptoms.
Eligibility Criteria
501(c)(3) organizations that serve Portage County individuals, families, or groups are eligible to apply for a grant. The grant application must demonstrate how the grant will be used to enhance people’s skills or meet their basic needs in Portage County. Grant principles have expanded to include promoting justice and advocacy, inclusivity, and driving long-term changes. Additional consideration will be given to organizations that ensure decision-making power is with those most impacted.
