This grant program, established with funding support from GM, seeks to expand revitalization efforts across the city’s neighborhoods by supporting local businesses and boosting the power of the community doing vital work there to support Flint residents.
The program is designed to help businesses grow and expand, make repairs and leasehold improvements, and/or purchase inventory and equipment. The collaborative effort between GM and the Economic Alliance will help to broaden revitalization efforts beyond the city’s downtown and into the neighborhoods.
Funding Information
- The Moving Flint Forward grant program will award 17 grants up to $10,000 each to small businesses.
- The Moving Flint Forward program invites past grantees to apply to receive up to $5,000 each.
Grant Criteria
All grant applicants must complete the application process and comply with all program requirements. Grantees will be required to meet as a cohort 3-4 times during the grant period to network, provide updates on grant activities, share best practices/lessons learned, receive expert training, and receive technical support.
- Must own and operate a business within the City of Flint
- Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to attend at least one informational session before applying
- All applicants must complete each step of the application process to receive the entire grant
- Businesses must host at least one site visit with staff dedicated to this program to showcase progress/completion of grant activities
- Business must have a current business plan available to be submitted alongside grant application
- Business must show that they are able to manage a reimbursable grant with a Business Finance Statement
- Business must be a small business with less than 20 employees
- Business may not be a franchise
- Business owner cannot be an employee of the Flint & Genesee Group, nor its divisions or other subsidiaries, along with other immediate family members (spouse, parent, children, etc.)
- Business must be in good standing as of the date of submission and not in bankruptcy
- Owners must not be listed on the Michigan State Police Sex Offender Registry; and must comply with the U.S. Patriot Act 3-4.
