Goals
- Positively impact the community-wide sustainability objectives and indicators outlined in Durango’s Sustainability Plan and promote awareness of the plan.
- Build community resilience to climate change and environmental stressors.
- Encourage environmental sustainability action from Durango businesses, non-profits, and community organizations.
- Provide equitable, community-based opportunities for all residents to get involved with, and benefit from, environmental sustainability initiatives.
Funding Information
The Green Durango Grant offers funding of $5,000 per project, with $25,000 of total funding available in 2024. This is a reimbursement grant. After notice of awards are given, awardees must show proof of expenses and project progress in order to receive funding.
Eligible Expenses
Eligible expenses include equipment, supplies, materials, fees for services, contracted labor, and staff time spent directly on the project. Administrative/general operating expenses (a.k.a. indirect or F&A costs) are allowable but cannot exceed 10% of total grant request.
Eligibility Criteria
The grant is for projects located inside Durango city limits that create community benefits within one or more of Sustainability Plan sectors. Projects must comply with all city policies, codes, and ordinances as well as state and federal law.
This grant program is open to:
- Businesses
- Community organizations including schools, churches (of any belief), and HOAs
- Non-profits.

- Potential for continued effort and impact (25%)
- Feasibility and ability to complete on time (20%)
- Collaboration across the community (15%)
- Creativity and innovation (15%)
- Equity and audience served (15%)
- First-time applicant bonus (10%).
