The purpose of this grant program is to help more people explore California’s spectacular coast.
Funding Information
Approximately $185,000 will be awarded in this grant round. The anticipated minimum grant award is $1,000, and the maximum is $30,000.
Eligible Projects
Eligible projects include the acquisition of beach wheelchairs, all-terrain wheelchairs, beach accessibility mats, maintenance parts, adaptive equipment for kayaks, and non-permanent beach wheelchair storage that will be provided free of charge to the public.
Eligible projects must include one or both of the following
- Purchase of outdoor wheelchair(s), adaptive equipment, and/or beach accessibility mat(s) to maximize barrier-free access to the coast for all who need it. Proof of purchase must be submitted to Coastkeeper within 90 days of receiving funding. Equipment must be maintained for five years.
- Purchase of maintenance parts, temporary prefabricated storage, or weather protection for existing or new equipment, such as storage sheds or awnings. As these are relatively small grants, they will not fund the planning or construction of storage facilities.
Projects may also include outreach or marketing components as a relatively small portion of the overall budget. This could include media or special events to promote the installation of beach accessibility mat(s), beach wheelchair availability, advertising availability of beach wheelchairs to target audiences, and/or signage describing availability of beach wheelchairs.
Eligibility Criteria
Federally recognized tribes, public agencies, and certain nonprofit organizations are eligible for funding. To be eligible, a nonprofit organization must qualify under the provisions of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and its articles of incorporation must demonstrate that the organization’s purposes are consistent with Division 21 of the Public Resources Code, the Coastal Conservancy’s enabling legislation.
