State: North Carolina

County: Wake County (NC)

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 10/04/2024

Size of the Grant: $3,000 – $10,000

Details:

HealthLit4Wake is supported by a federal grant from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), dedicated to enhancing health literacy and promoting health equity.

Through the HealthLit4Wake grant, Wake County Government will use the mini grant awards to further relationships with community partners that are working in underserved communities across the county. Moreover, the awards will be distributed to organizations that can help promote accurate, timely, and culturally sensitive health information to historically marginalized populations.

Goals

The goals of the mini grant awards are aligned with the strategic goals for the HealthLit4Wake grant.

Some of these goals are to:

  • Implement evidence-based health literacy interventions within the target community.
  • Increase the knowledge and intent to change behavior among individuals impacted by the health literacy interventions.
  • Ensure alignment between the demographic characterizes of the populations reached and the target populations, specifically Black/African American and Hispanic populations.
  • Enhance community engagement by Community Health Workers (CHWs) through events and activities that address Social Determinants of Health.
  • Promote the establishment of policies, practices, and partnerships within organizations that contribute to improving Health Equity.

Mini grants will be awarded to organizations that provide resources and services to historically marginalized communities. With this mini grant, recipients are expected to reach community members with questions and concerns regarding a variety of health topics, promoting health literacy and health equity within Wake County communities.

Some examples of work that could be funded include:

  • Hosting health fairs to distribute health information and conduct screenings.
  • Conducting community outreach to educate on various health topics.
  • Producing messaging to promote health literacy and health equity:
    • Social media campaigns, Radio messaging, Fliers, Infographics, Newsletters, etc.
  • Hosting workshops or seminars on health literacy and preventive health measures.
  • Creating educational materials tailored to the needs of specific communities.
  • Facilitating listening sessions to understand and address community health concerns.
  • Implementing programs to support mental health and wellness.
  • And other innovative ideas to enhance health literacy and equity within Wake County.
