Age-Friendly Minnesota Community Grants

Do you have an idea to make your community more age-friendly? The Age-Friendly Minnesota Council announced its second round of Community Grants to support of projects that strengthen and improve communities for people of all ages, including older adults.

This round of Community Grants is focused on four Funding Areas in alignment with Minnesota’s new Multisector Blueprint for Aging:

  • Connected Communities
  • Emergency Preparedness, Individual Rights and Safety
  • Optimized Health and Longevity
  • Economic Security and Vitality

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) in cooperation with Age-Friendly Minnesota (AFMN) Council is offering Community Grants to help communities work on age-friendly projects and become better places for all Minnesotans to grow older.

Funding Information

The maximum Community Grant award may not exceed eighty thousand dollars ($80,000). Grants will be available in four Funding Areas. Applicants may apply for funding in up to two of the Funding Areas for a total of eighty thousand dollars ($80,000).

Grant Period

The term of the initial Community Grant period is anticipated to be from February 12, 2025 through March 31, 2026.

Uses of funds 

AFMN Grant awards will fund efforts to create, improve, or expand innovative systems, programs, built environments, and other initiatives that contribute to age-friendly communities. Examples of eligible efforts include but are not limited to conducting needs assessments; developing plans; implementing an age-friendly framework; community engagement; improvements to the built environment (such as sidewalks, public buildings, etc.); and research.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must be licensed to conduct business within the state of Minnesota and registered with the Minnesota Secretary of State.
  • Applicants embrace the community values that demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA).
  • Grant applicants may fall within one of the following categories, among others: 501(c)(3) organization, 501(c)(4) organization, Tribal government, other unit of government, university, public entity, business, or sole proprietor.
  • Projects will promote age-friendly communities and initiatives.
