The purpose of the grant program is to help build, evolve, and reinforce a strong and equitable cultural community in Boise. They envision the program helping to bring people together to expand perspectives and build positive relationships that help create a city for everyone.
Funding Information
- The Department offers awards between $1,000 and $5,000 (in $500 increments). They expect to award a total of $150,000 for the FY2023 cycle.
Types of Applications Accepted
They strive to fund a wide range of projects and initiatives with art, history, or cultural focus, such as (but not limited to) the following:
- Performances
- Exhibits
- Educational opportunities (presentations/lectures, workshops, walking tours, training, etc.
- Collaborations or innovative production that cultivates the cultural community
- Research, planning, and/or analysis that is available for Boise citizens to help strengthen Boise’s cultural base
- Virtual and online projects of the above or other projects, with a clear intent to reach Boise citizens
- Public Community Cultural Events – Events with a cultural focus will have priority; will also consider funding cultural components within a larger public event
Eligibility Criteria
- You can apply as an individual or as a representative of an organization; the key is that Boise residents need to be able to access your project for free or at a low cost ($20 or less per person). You can only apply for one grant per year.
- Individuals may apply, but this grant does not fund professional development or the creation of individual work without a public component (that is, having the work accessible for free or low cost to the public).
- They accept applications from people in both established and emerging cultural fields—from representatives of professional cultural organizations to people just starting out in Boise’s cultural scene.
To be considered for funding through the Arts & History Grant program, proposals must:
- Directly benefit residents living within Boise City Limits. If the project involves an event, the venue must be located within Boise City Limits.
- Meet Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards regarding physical accessibility to project venues.
