Eligibility Criteria
While they understand the importance of stable, multi-year funding, this opportunity is not able to support repeat funding requests. One-time funding requests up to $10,000 will allow CHF to support a broad spectrum of organizations and fiscally sponsored projects that:
- Have been overlooked by — or have had limited access to — funders. “Newer” and “smaller” organizations (with operating budgets less than $500,000) are encouraged to apply. (Organizations who have previously received funding from Cone Health Foundation and former Nurturing Equity grant recipients are not eligible to apply.)
- Are founded, led, and governed by people who reflect the communities they serve. They believe the most equitable and effective approaches come from organizations whose decision-makers reflect the people they serve.
- Represent place- and/or identity-based communities most adversely impacted by inequitable and discriminatory policies. CHF seeks to fund work by and for Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color; queer, transgender, and gender-nonconforming people; people with disabilities; immigrants; refugeees, people living with low to moderate incomes; people who are involved with the justice system; and especially those who hold several of these identities. The service/funding area is limited to Greensboro.
- Are nonprofit organizations and grassroots groups. Organizations without a 501c3 status but who have a fiscal sponsor can apply. The service/funding area is limited to Greensboro.
- Are pursuing community-powered work that centers racial justice and equity. Those efforts might include: mobilizing people and organizations, developing leaders, fostering connections, leading anti-racism efforts, and the many other ways historically marginalized communities express power.
