The Washington State Department of Ecology is accepting applications for Round 3 of its “Charge Where You Are: Level 2 EV Charging” grant program. This initiative is focused on reducing diesel engine emissions and mitigating the excess nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from Volkswagen vehicles in Washington State.
The program aims to accelerate electric vehicle adoption, support electrification of public transportation fleets, and promote cleaner vehicle technologies. It emphasizes cost-effective solutions, additional emission reductions, and the use of matching funds.
A total of $3.52 million is available through 2025. Applicants can receive up to $10,000 per charging plug. The funding percentage varies by project type—public access sites on government or non-government property are eligible for up to 80% of costs, while other categories like multi-family residences and workplace installations are eligible for up to 60%.
Grants can be used for a wide range of project expenses. These include project design, purchase and installation of EV charging equipment, electrical upgrades, trenching, permitting, signage, internet connectivity, and extended warranties or maintenance agreements.
Eligible projects must fit into categories such as public access sites, multi-unit residences, workplaces, or other non-public use cases. Publicly accessible chargers must be open at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Applicants must be licensed businesses or nonprofit organizations in Washington State, including local or tribal governments, utilities, housing properties, and other public entities. All projects must be completed within one year of grant approval.
The application deadline is August 21, 2025.
