The ADU Accelerator aims to explore how state-facilitated technical assistance can boost the development of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and identify which services best support property owners looking to build an ADU. This initiative is led by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Technology Center (MassCEC) and targets property owners across all counties in Massachusetts, with a focus on the Pioneer Valley.
MassCEC is seeking a qualified Technical Assistance Consultant, known as a TA Provider, to manage the ADU Accelerator program. The consultant will generate leads among Massachusetts property owners interested in building all-electric, prefabricated ADUs. They will also provide financial and site feasibility screenings to potential ADU builders, offer technical assistance to qualified candidates, and collect data to inform future state programs aimed at expanding ADU development as part of addressing the housing shortage.
The TA Provider’s work will unfold in three phases. Phase A involves designing the ADU Accelerator in consultation with MassCEC staff. Phase B covers the implementation of the program, including providing technical assistance and launching a web-based ADU Resource Center for property owners in the Pioneer Valley. Phase C requires the TA Provider to deliver a final report summarizing lessons learned and offering recommendations for future state policies and initiatives.
Funding for this program totals $500,000, with a contract duration of up to three years. Eligible applicants include private companies, consultants, or nonprofits, preferably with a presence in Massachusetts. Applicants must be ready to start work, including launching the ADU Resource Center by October 2025, and have local staff capacity in the Pioneer Valley to support the program throughout the grant period.
