Healthcare Foundation of Wilson (HFW) CAREs about the nonprofit partners that provide CARE (Compassion, Assistance, Responsiveness, and Engagement) for the community. As a response to support the work done by these organizations, the HFW seeks proposals from nonprofit organizations located in Wilson, NC, for an unrestricted funds grant. Funds may be used for general operating support.
Funding Priorities
The nonprofit’s mission and/or vision must align with at least one of the four focus areas.
- Access to Healthcare
- Active Living / Healthy Eating
- Alcohol / Substance Misuse
- Behavioral / Mental Health
The CAREs Flexible Funding will prioritize organizations that are looking to strengthen the sustainability of their organizations. Examples of funding opportunities are:
- Staff or Leadership Development
- Communications or Marketing Support
- Operating and Systems Improvements (Human Resource, Accounting, and Customer Relationship Management Software, etc.)
- Technology Equipment.

Eligibility Requirements
- Organizations applying for funding must be tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
- Organizations that have received HFW funding in the past will receive preference; however, new organizations are encouraged to apply.
- Governmental entities or schools will NOT be considered for the CAREs Flexible Funding.
- 501(c)(3) nonprofits must provide a copy of the determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service indicating the tax-exempt status.
- The organization must have filed a 990 or 990-N (e-Postcard) each year. Documentation will be requested.
Ineligibility
Organizations applying for funding should consider the following. The CAREs Flexible Funding will not be used for:
- Capital campaigns and fund drives.
- Grants to individuals, dinners, event sponsorship, fundraising, or endowments.
- Grants that fund staff and board retreats.
- Funding for a consultant.
- Retirement or minimizing previously accrued debt.
- Funds that would be considered a “pass-through” to another organization.
- Lobbying, activities supporting political candidates, or voter registration drives.
- Organizations with a substantial purpose of influencing any political, legislative, or regulatory cause.
- Broad, unfocused requests.
- Organizations that have a grant request that exceeds their total assets.
- Organizations that discriminate or restrict citizens from receiving program resources because of race, ethnicity, color, culture, language, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, or religion.
