The primary goal of the North Central Greenways Implementation Grant is to facilitate the implementation of the recommendations in the North Central Regional Greenways and Active Transportation Plan to expand and enhance greenways, trails, and active transportation networks across Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter counties.
This program leverages grant funds through the partnership of the Department of Conservation of Natural Resources to meet DCNR’s statewide and regional goals and priorities. Funds will be administered by the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission.
Funding Information
Grant requests may not exceed $25,000. Total project cost should not exceed $50,000.
Eligible Projects
Consideration will be given to grants that support the North Central Regional Greenways and Active Transportation Plan and fall into three categories: Developmental, Planning, and Technical Assistance. A few examples include, but are not limited to:
Developmental
- Implementation of non-point source pollution reduction activities such as agricultural and stormwater best management practices projects, specifically in impaired waters.
- Restoration of riparian buffers and creation of wetlands. Protection or improvement of existing natural areas primarily for ecological health and preservation of wildlife.
- Adoption of municipal open space and land use regulations to protect land and water resources.
- Streambank stabilization projects that lead to water quality and ecological improvements to the receiving watershed.
- Trail or trailhead development, park development, water trail/canoe and/or kayak launch development.
Planning
- Planning and implementation studies that directly lead to on-the-ground water quality projects.
- Natural systems greenways corridor implementation strategies.
- Source water characterization and protection studies that protect and enhance public water supply sources.
- Trail town master planning, pedestrian and bicycle feasibility studies, land based and water trail feasibility studies.
Technical Assistance
- Water quality and conservation improvement education and outreach through workshops or training
- Outreach and marketing for water quality workshops and special events.
- Source water protection outreach and education activities.
- Trail, recreation, and conservation-related activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants or sponsors for these projects consist of all county or municipal governments, Council of Governments, conservation districts, housing/redevelopment authorities, 501c3 non-profit organizations, and conservancies within the North Central Pennsylvania counties of Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter.
- The sources of DCNR’s funding for this NCGIG round are the Environmental Stewardship Fund (ESF) and the Keystone Recreation, Park, and Conservation Fund (KRPCF). All above-mentioned applicants are eligible to apply for ESF funds, but KRPCF funds are limited to projects for local governments.
