Horizon Foundation also recognize that they can’t do this work alone. Foundation value the community partners and believe that together they can make big change happen in Howard County and greater Maryland. Foundation seek to work with partners that are committed to and/or working toward the goals below.
- Are community led. Foundation recognize that community leadership and expertise are necessary to address health and racial inequities and that they are closest to the issues and solutions. Partners will demonstrate and use community wisdom, expertise, and leadership.
- Build power. Foundation recognize that building power within communities most impacted by systemic racial inequities will address a history of exclusion and marginalization. Foundation aim to build the voice, leadership, and engagement of African American, Asian American, Hispanic, and Native American communities.
- Dismantle structural racism within organizations and institutions. Foundation seek partners that will change the status quo and erase long-standing structural inequities that exist across the community institutions of power.
- Mobilize for policy change. Foundation seek partners that advocate for policy change at the local, state, and regional levels. Foundation recognize that this type of systemic change takes long-term solutions, and they seek to work with partners over a period of time to build the base, create policy wins, and catalyze sustained movements.
- Embody effective stewardship. Foundation seek partners who use disaggregated data and use internal systems to foster learning and accountability of racial equity outcomes. Partners can demonstrate policies and practices that reflect organizational and fiscal health.
Building on this framework, the Foundation specifically seeks partners to:
- Uplift narratives from the community to better understand how the residents are facing mental health challenges and how they are experiencing the mental health system
- Convene community and increase awareness and acceptance of existing services
- Advocate for additional mental health resources and services and help identify future policy needs.
Funding Information
The Horizon Foundation expect to fund at least 6 committed organizations between $15,000-$20,000.
Grant Period
The grant period for grantees is from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
- Proposals will be accepted from organizations that envision a Howard County free from systemic inequities, where all people can live abundant and healthy lives.
- Organizations must be: (a) tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)3 or (b) have a fiscal sponsor that is tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)3.
