The Basalt Public Arts Commission, commonly known as BPAC, was established in 2015 by the Basalt Town Council to act as a formal advisory board on public art matters within Basalt. BPAC is tasked with exploring and cultivating partnerships that can support the implementation of the Town’s arts goals, reviewing and making recommendations on financing for public art, acting as a referral agency on development applications when appropriate, and working with the Town’s other committees and boards to help further the goals and objectives of the Basalt Master Plan.

Categories

New Public Projects, Programs or Events

This category includes proposals that are entirely new, or that may exist elsewhere and are proposed to be replicated in Basalt.

  • The Project, Program or Event must commence within the 2026 calendar year. Those that will be completed within the 2026 calendar year shall be prioritized. Projects, Programs or Events that may not be fully accomplished within the calendar year but are found to be compelling shall be considered for funding. All Projects, Programs and Events must be completed prior to making an application for the next BPAC grant cycle.
  • Applications that involve an artist or organization working in partnership with another/other artist(s) or organization(s) may be prioritized, particularly if the partnership results in a broader audience.

Recurring Public Art Programming

This category includes public Projects, Programs or Events that have occurred in previous years in Basalt, and which have received BPAC grant funding in any past year. The intent of the BPAC grant is to provide starter funding to assist with launching a Project, Program or Event, and is not intended to be a long-term funding source. However, funding requests for Projects, Programs and Events that have
received previous BPAC grant funding in any prior year may be considered if it is successfully demonstrated how the proposed Project, Program or Event has developed, grown and/or changed, and how the requested funding will be used to enhance the Project, Program or Event in a manner not previously undertaken or  provided. Please note, funding requests will not be considered for repeat Projects, Programs or Events that have demonstrated no change since the last iteration. Other considerations for a successful recurring application may include:

  • Applications that involve an artist or organization working in partnership with another/other artist(s) or organization(s) may be prioritized, particularly if the partnership results in a broader audience.
  • Demonstrated success with the previous iteration of the Project, Program or Event or how a previously funded Project, Program or Event that may not have had a high degree of success will be changed to better position its success. Additionally, it should be demonstrated how the continuation of the Project, Program or Event will be a benefit to the Basalt community.
