2022-2023 People Organizing Positively Initiative

Dated: June 28, 2022

AIDS United, with continued funding support from Gilead Sciences, Inc., is pleased to announce the opportunity for grant support through the People Organizing Positively (POP) initiative.

Donor Name: AIDS United

State: All States

County: All Counties

U.S. Territories: American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 07/07/2022

Grant Size: $35,000-$45,000

Grant Duration: 1 year

Details:

The goals of the initiative are to support organizations that:

  • Embrace and operationalize the principles of Meaningful Involvement of People Living with HIV.
  • Increase leadership capacity of people living with HIV.
  • Support grassroots activities that involve the leadership of people living with HIV.
  • Strengthen the organizational practices that embody and operationalize MIPA values.

Funding will prioritize projects developed within organizations serving and advocating for people living with HIV. Applicants must demonstrate organizational dedication to the leadership development of people living with HIV predicated on the principles of Meaningful Involvement of People Living with HIV. These projects should have specific, measurable impact on developing leaders living with HIV and on the applicant organization.

AIDS United will support projects via the following two tracks:

  • Building a MIPA-driven Organization: Project should focus on concrete activities that strengthen organizational practices and operationalize MIPA values at the organizational level.
  • MIPA-driven Grassroots Project: Project should focus on specific grassroots activities that involve the leadership of PLHIV in the identification of the challenge and in the planned response.

Funding Information

With continued funding support from Gilead Sciences Inc., they anticipate making eight to 12 grant awards that will range from $35,000-$45,000 per award for a 12-month project period.

Eligibility Criteria

Regional, community-based organizations (CBOs), faith-based organizations, AIDS service organizations (ASOs), past and current AU grantees from any initiative, and/or established networks of people living with HIV that meet all eligibility requirements are welcome to apply.

To be eligible for an award, applicants must adhere to the following:

  • Non-Profit Status – Applicants must be non-profit, tax-exempt organizations per the guidelines set forth by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with proper 501(c)3 status. Organizations that do not hold 501(c)3 status must have an already established relationship with a fiscal sponsor holding such status.
  • Location – Only organizations located and operating in the United States, or all U.S. Territories may apply.
  • Organizational Viability – Organizations should be financially secure with or without grant funds. This grant is not intended to help start new organizations or serve as a replacement for discontinued funding.
  • Budget Parameters – Organizations submitting a Pre-Application should have an annual operating budget that does not exceed $1 million. Note: This parameter applies to the applicant organization, not the fiscal sponsor; the fiscal sponsor can have an annual operating budget exceeding $1 million.
  • Representation of PLHIV – Representation of people living with HIV at the applicant organization is required. Strong representation tables (linked on the last page) show a commitment to building PLHIV leadership at all staffing levels and should reflect the intersections of the communities served. Organizations that do not have PLHIV will not be considered for funding.
