The grant is intended to boost the economy, strengthen the creative workforce, and support the communities of Hawaii. The Creative Workforce Grant provides eligible nonprofit 501(c)3 art and culture organizations support towards the living wage for staff salaries and/or contractual personnel in a creative worker role within the organization.
The Creative Workforce Grant must support at least one of the following:
- Supports creative workers in diverse projects, including, but not limited to, public artworks, musical and theatrical performances, and community documentation projects that lift the voices of systemically marginalized populations within the State of Hawaii.
- Support creative workers as artists-in-residence, fellows, community, or cultural organizers, teaching artists, and project managers.
- Supports creative workers receiving job training and learning occupational skills relevant to job characteristics of the arts and entertainment industry.
- Serve creative workers who are at the beginning of their careers in the creative arts, veterans, and returning residents of Hawaii, and, among other things, would focus on building marketable skills in the arts and creative industries.
- Support arts and culture organizations with local programs that engage artists and creative workers to address:
- community health issues
- commission public health campaigns to increase awareness
- integrate creative arts therapies into care for those most affected by the pandemic
- specific support for cultural practitioners and Native creators from Native Hawaiian communities
- free and low-cost arts and cultural opportunities to disproportionately impacted communities.
- Support Native Hawaiians seeking creative equitable opportunities, career exploration, and participation in creative work for individuals and communities.
- Supports the salaried employment of staff members or contractual personnel who personally represent (in the best case come from and live within) the same population(s) served by the organization’s programs.
Funding Information
The Creative Workforce Grant provides eligible nonprofit arts and culture organizations $25,000 in grant support. The total awarded grant amount must be applied to allowable expenses accrued during the grant implementation period of January 1, 2023, through June 30, 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
Hawaiʻi nonprofit arts and culture organizations that are 501(c)3 tax-exempt from federal income tax by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Organizations may not have an active grant contract with the SFCA at the time of contracting.
- Organizations contracted with a Biennium Grant FY2023 are not eligible to apply.
- Applicant must be a nonprofit arts or culture organization, 501(c)3 exempt from federal income tax by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- Incorporated under the laws of the State of Hawaiʻi
- Not barred or suspended from receiving federal funds
- Applicant must be compliant with Hawaiʻi Compliance Express at the time the Application is submitted. If the applicant is a recipient of a grant award, the applicant must remain compliant throughout the grant implementation period
- Applicant must have an active registration with the U.S. Government System for Award Management at the time the Application is submitted. If the applicant is the recipient of a grant award, the applicant must maintain the active registration throughout the grant implementation period.
- Only one application may be submitted per applicant
- Fiscal sponsorship is not permitted
- The Intent to Apply and the Application must be entirely completed and submitted via the Hawaiʻi GO Smart online application system. No applications will be accepted by email or by hard copy.
- Creative worker supported by the Creative Workforce Grant must be a staff member, or contractual personnel during the grant implementation period of January 1, 2023 through June 30, 2023.
