Workforce Partner Support Grants Program – North Carolina

The City of Charlotte is launching a new round of funding for the Workforce Partner Support Grants program, providing $1,500,000 to increase access to training programs in financial and professional services, technology, manufacturing, transportation and healthcare industries.

  • Organizations with proven results in education and workforce development programming
  • Organizations that provide the highest return on investment by impacting the most residents in their city
  • Organizations that share:
    • Adequate scope of work
    • Itemized budget for execution
    • Timeline for execution
    • Project accountability outcomes
  • Organizations that outline the overall impact of the public health crisis to the organization
  • Organizations that outline the perceived community benefit, the organization’s intended use of the funds (including how many individuals would be served through enhanced direct services), and the sustainability of any new technology solutions acquired, etc.

Funding Information

The maximum allowed request is $250,000 and the minimum allowed request is $100,000-$250,000.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the program the applicant must be a non-profit organization that provides direct services in education and workforce development to residents of Charlotte, North Carolina. The City of Charlotte will award $1.5M in grants to nonprofits that provide workforce development programs supporting technical or hard skills development for individuals earning low to moderate income, 16 years of age and up and impacted by the pandemic in Charlotte, North Carolina. Eligible programs include those training for skills in Financial and Professional Services, Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Transportation and/or Healthcare.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Organization must have an operating budget of $250,000 or greater
  • Workforce development programs must benefit individuals earning low to moderate income, be 16 years of age or older and impacted by the pandemic
  • Provide documentation that the organization has been in operation for at least one year (i.e. annual reports or similar supporting documents)
  • List of current Board of Directors/Advisory Board: Name, Title, Year Appointed to Board.
  • Most recently approved audited financials
    • Additional financial Statements upon request
  • Maximum amount requested cannot exceed $250,000 and the minimum amount cannot be below $100,000
  • Submit a plan for how monies will be allocated/spent for a two (2) year period to support workforce development (both technical or essential hard skills)
  • Grant recipients must spend 10% in partnership with a smaller non-profit that can help them facilitate their work (this partner will be part of application). In the context of this grant opportunity, organizations with an operating budget of $250,000 or greater are considered large non-profits.
  • Organizations with an operating budget lower than $250,000 are considered small nonprofits
  • The organization does not need to be headquartered within the city limits of Charlotte, NC, but the organization must be doing at least 60% of business here
  • The organization must have a curriculum working towards job placement or a proposed plan to develop one
