Request for Applications for Charlton Cultural Council Grant Program (Massachusetts)

Dated: September 8, 2022

The Charlton Cultural Council is seeking applications for its grant program 2022.

Donor Name: Mass Cultural Council

State: Massachusetts

Town: Charlton

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 10/17/2022

Size of the Grant: $9,900

Details:

Over the years they have supported a number of activities and events that reach their entire community as well as surrounding towns. Grant recipients have provided cultural enrichment in a number of areas including nature walks and plant identification, themed dance instruction, motivational talks, programming for the visually impaired, as well as a number of musical performances. In addition to awarding MCC grants, the CCC also holds an annual art show in conjunction with the Charlton Old Home Day celebration.

2023 Local Priorities

Charlton Cultural Council (CCC) Priorities and Application Review Criteria:

  • The CCC prioritizes applicants with complete performance and budget plans, a secured location for their performance. A letter of support from a Charlton organization is encouraged, but not required.
  • The CCC puts Charlton artists or local performances at the top of their criteria for selection.
  • The CCC welcomes new applicants and would prioritize over repeat submitters.
  • The CCC prioritizes partial funding of multiple projects over fully funding fewer projects.
  • The CCC advances performances for the general public ahead of target audiences.
  • The CCC will retain up to 20% of each annual allocation to support their annual art show and other local activities; the annual percentage will flex to place the priority on funding grant applicants.

Funding Information

Grant amount: $9,900

Eligibility Criteria

  • Types of grants. A Local Cultural Council may approve grants for a broad range of projects and programs, such as operating support, ticket subsidies, field trips, artist residencies, public art, fellowships, community events/programs, site specific projects, and other activities, based on local priorities. Each Local Cultural Council determines its own local eligibility requirements based on a community engagement process.
  • Program eligibility. Applicants may apply for grants for programs that take place during an 18-month window of eligibility from July 1, preceding the application deadline in October, through December 31 of the following year. This means that applicants may apply for projects that have already happened or which happen prior to grant announcements, with the knowledge that funding is not guaranteed. Local Cultural Councils are authorized to establish a smaller window of eligibility; if they do so, they must publish the eligible dates in their council guidelines.
  • Applicant eligibility. Applicants must reside or be located in Massachusetts. Local Cultural Councils may accept applications from anyone included in the following list:
    • Individuals
    • Incorporated private nonprofit organizations
    • Unincorporated associations that can establish a nonprofit objective
    • Public schools, libraries, other municipal agencies, and the Local Cultural Council itself
    • Religious organizations.

2023 Local Guidelines

  • The Charlton Cultural Council holds multiple meetings during the grant cycle to review grant submissions. If a grant appears to be incomplete, then they will reach out to an applicant to obtain additional details.
  • Outside of their Council Priorities, they also consider the diversity of programs and evaluate opportunities to increase community involvement. They work closely with their past grant recipients to promote both the grant cycle as well as grantee events across their social media platforms.
