The Ludlow Cultural Council supports the cultural vitality of Ludlow, MA by awarding grant funds to artists, educators, musicians, and other performers or organizations for events and activities that benefit their town. They support a range of activities for all ages including children’s activities, summer concert series, activities in their schools, and programs for senior citizens.

Local Priorities

Applicants for grants from the Ludlow Cultural Council should be aware of the following priorities and requirements:

  • Requirements
    • Activities funded by the Council should occur within the calendar year that they were awarded.
    • The project or program proposed must take place in or benefit Ludlow.
    • Projects involving collaboration must include a letter of support from the collaborating organizations.
    • All applicants proposing to work in the Ludlow Public Schools must receive and document approval from the school principal.
  • Priorities
    • They seek to fund activities throughout the entire calendar year (e.g. in fall, winter, spring and summer)
    • Their goal is to award grants that are inclusive of all areas of their community (e.g. families, seniors, adults, and children, as well different cultures and backgrounds) and to counter structural and systemic inequities.
    • They will reserve a portion of their funds for grants to multiple musical performances to create a summer concert series.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must reside or be located in Massachusetts. Local Cultural Councils may accept applications from anyone included in the following list:

  • Individuals: Individual applicants must show that a public benefit results from the project for which they are applying. A public presentation of an individual’s work may provide the needed public benefit. Individual members of Local Cultural Councils may apply for funding from a Local Cultural Council but must observe all conflict-of-interest laws and regulations in the granting process. Local Cultural Councils may also establish their own rules regarding applications from council members as long as these are consistent with the state’s conflict of interest laws.
  • Incorporated private nonprofit organizations.
  • Unincorporated associations that can establish a nonprofit objective. A group of individuals coming together with a common purpose (e.g., local community band, theater group) that do not have nonprofit status.
  • Public schools, libraries, other municipal agencies, and the Local Cultural Council itself.
  • Religious organizations. Religious organizations or groups with a religious affiliation are eligible to apply for funding for cultural programming that is available to the general public. LCCs can only approve applications that are primarily cultural in their intent and do not have the effect of advancing religion.
