Dated: January 6, 2022

Applicants are invited to apply for the wayOUT’s 2022 grant cycle.

Donor Name: wayOUT

Country: United States

State: All States

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 02/04/2022

Grant Size: $5,000-$75,000

Details:

wayOUT believes that LGBTQ+ youth should feel safe being who they really are, wherever they are, and they need your help to make this happen. Through investing in organizations that provide life-saving services, they want to change what it means to grow up as a gender and sexual minority in America. Their partner organizations are critical to the safety and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth in the U.S. They serve on the front lines and work directly in their communities as change agents.

Funding Information

Amount Requested ($5,000-$75,000)

Organizational Eligibility Criteria:

Partner Organization must serve children and youth (11 to 25 years old).

  • Primary focus: Their program partners must serve a specific, marginalized LGBTQ+ population with at least 10 youth. Agencies who serve a broader age constituency may be eligible for a capacity building grant targeted toward youth-serving programs within the organization and will be asked to provide data on the percent of total programming directed to children and youth only.
  • Services: Preference is given to organizations whose primary mission is related to the safety and advocacy of LGBTQ+ youth within their communities. Successful grant applicants will be nonprofit organizations (or, in some cases, a program within an organization) that such as suicide prevention, transgender support and services, homelessness, LGBTQ+ competent healthcare and HIV/AIDS services; mentorship / continuing education, self esteem building, promotion of healthy behaviors and emotional health supports, etc.
  • Geographic Area: Their partners must be based within the United States. Though they encourage applications from all across the country, preference will be given to organizations in states with laws that impact access to safety and wellbeing for LGBTQ+ youth, and resources are not readily accessible. Applicants will be asked to identify and demonstrate a gap in services in their area.

Selection Criteria

The following questions will be considered during proposal review. Please do not answer them here, but make sure you touch on all in your responses to the application questions below.
  • Is the organization U.S.-based and either located in a state whose laws don’t protect against discrimination
  • based on gender or sexual identity, or in a location distant from life-saving resources?
  • Does the organization have access to funding (wayOUT isn’t the sole donor); but the program is underfunded?
  • Is the organization meeting a demonstrated need of at least 10 at-risk LGBTQ+ children, youth & families who are facing multiple forms of oppression?
  • Can the organization make a meaningful impact on the lives and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth?
  • Does the organization’s staff and its board have relevant experience to support the program proposal?

If seeking project-based support:

  • Is there a clear case for support?
  • Is there a compelling explanation of the need and how the proposed project will meet that need?
  • Is there a clear description of how funds will be used?
  • Is there a reasonable timeline?
  • Does the project goal have clear, specific objectives that can be accomplished through a defined set of activities?
  • Are there defined indicators to assess progress against the project goal? How are those indicators monitored, measured, and evaluated?
  • Is there consideration for how the work will be sustained after grant funding has ended, if appropriate?
