Frontline Arts Organization Sustainability Fund (New York)

Dated: October 17, 2022

The City of Buffalo is accepting applications for its Frontline Arts Organization Sustainability Fund.

Donor Name: City of Buffalo

State: New York

City: Buffalo

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 11/22/2022

Size of the Grant: $250,000

Details:

Frontline Arts organizations provide a critical service to residents who have experienced trauma in their lives; the programs they facilitate use a variety of artistic mediums to help individuals—especially younger people who may not have developed the language skills or emotional maturity—to process trauma in a way that leads to healing and growth. These programs often operate in community centers or in partnership with faith-based groups and provide their services in conjunction with a wider array of programming that is already available to the young people they are serving.

Funding Information

The City intends to make awards of up to $250,000 to approximately five non-profit organizations for the purpose of administering frontline arts community programming that sponsors in-house project activities and/or provides funding for external projects through a merit-based process determined by the awarded organization.

Projects funded through this program must be community-based and serve residents who have directly or indirectly experienced violence, poverty, discrimination, mental or emotional health issues, housing insecurity, or a combination of these exacerbated by the pandemic. Projects funded may use any form of artistic expression and City of Buffalo medium to help their enrollees process related challenges and navigate self-care and mental health through art.

Key Performance Indicators  (KPIs)

The organization selected must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Ensure that 100% of service recipients are residents of the City of Buffalo
  • Ensure that the projects to be funded are:
    • Serving residents, at least 75% of whom, live in neighborhoods identified as High Need in the latest Priority Needs Ranking Map.
    • Providing services to residents whose household income does not exceed 300% of the federal poverty level for Buffalo
    • Use a trauma informed care or similar approach in the development of their programs
  • Develop and implement a merit-based program for awarding funds in compliance with the pertinent local, state, and federal rules and regulations
  • Have the capacity to effectively monitor funded projects to ensure compliance with administrative, fiscal, and programmatic goals and objectives
  • Find ways to leverage this funding to develop a more predictable and consistent stream of funding for Frontline Arts organizations in the City of Buffalo
  • Provide support and technical assistance to funded projects so they are employing best practices and effective programming
  • Publicize project successes in conjunction with the City of Buffalo for the purpose of securing more funding or additional resources over the life of the program
