MCMP’s strategic goals are to plan for growth and change in their coastal communities; protect, preserve, restore, enhance, and wisely develop coastal areas for use and enjoyment to improve quality of life; and build partnerships to create networks that strengthen and expand the collective impact of effective and efficient coastal management.
The MCMP builds upon efforts to enhance the preparedness and resiliency of coastal communities and their capacity to mitigate the impacts of coastal hazards. Coastal communities are facing steadily increasing coastal hazards, making it imperative that efforts to effectively prepare for, mitigate impacts of, and quickly recover from these hazards are taken. The MCMP supports strategic investments in:
- Technical assistance, planning, and actions necessary to strengthen coastal hazard preparedness, mitigation, and recovery capacity of communities.
- Planning, assessment, design, and implementation of nature-based solutions including natural infrastructure and green infrastructure.
- Work with local communities to ensure safe public access to coastal areas by investing in coastal infrastructure and habitat restoration projects that support healthy habitats and resilient communities.
Grant Amounts
Planning projects can be no less than $10,000 and no greater than $100,000. Low-cost construction projects can be no less than $10,000 and no greater than $200,000.
Grant Award Period
Anticipated project start dates may be as early as October 1, 2023, with a project period of 15-months from the start date. Projects will be evaluated on project readiness and ability to complete all project tasks within this time frame.
Criteria
Eligible applicants include local units of government, cities, counties, villages, and townships, regional planning agencies, educational institutions (e.g., universities and school districts), Tribal governments, not-for-profit 501(c) organizations, and state agencies.
Complete applications will be evaluated for funding based on the following considerations:
- Program Focus Area preferences.
- Overall quality and clarity of the application.
- Organizational capability of the applicant to complete the project as proposed.
- Project readiness and feasibility for completion within the specified grant period.
- Degree of public benefit to be derived from the project.
- Measurability of project outcomes.
- Return of past grant investments.
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Environmental Justice, and Accessibility
