Artists Respond Grant Program for Connecticut Artists (Round 2)

The Artists Respond grant program provides direct funding to Connecticut artists to pursue community-based projects that use the arts to respond to social issues, current events, and community needs.

Details:

Connecticut artists may apply for a grant of either $2,500 or $5,000 to support artist fees and other and project related expenses.

Projects must occur in Connecticut and be artist-centered initiatives that use the arts to inspire, empower, educate, and transform the Connecticut communities.

The Artists Respond program aims to invest in a wide range of community-based projects from large audience events to small group activities. All activities must be ready to pivot, if necessary, to comply with the ever-changing social distancing measures implemented at the local, state and federal level as a result of COVID-19.

Grant Requirements

Eligible Expenses – grant funds may be used for:

  • Self-compensation.
  • Fees to other artists.

Ineligible Expenses

  • Artist fee expenses that occur before or after the designated funding period.

Additional Fiscal Information

  • Artists Respond grants do not require a cash or in-kind match.
  • Grant awards are contingent on available funds.
  • Grant funds may only be expended during the funding period for eligible expenses.

Funding Period

March 1 – September 30, 2022.

Eligible Applicants

  • Only one (1) application may be submitted per eligible applicant per application round.
  • Connecticut Artists may apply to the program if you are:
    • 18 years of age or older at the time of application deadline.
    • a full-time resident of Connecticut at the time of application deadline and continue to be a full-time resident at the time the award is granted. Awards are subject to verification of CT residency.

Ineligible Applicants for Round 2 include:

  • Applicants awarded an Artists Respond grant in Round 1 may not apply for a grant in Round 2.
  • Fiscal year 2021 ($3,000 and $5,000) recipients of the Artist Fellowship Program. Emerging Recognition awardees ($1,000) are eligible to apply to Artists Respond, those who submit incomplete or late submissions.
  • COA staff and members of their immediate families.
  • Past grantees with overdue final reports from any past COA programs.
  • Organizations/Business entities (non-profit or for-profit), municipal offices, schools, libraries, etc.
