Request for Proposals for InternNE Grant Program (Nebraska)

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) is issuing an RFP for the purpose of selecting qualified Nebraska non-profit entities to provide services necessary to carry out the grant functions of the InternNE grant program.

Details:

The InternNE program grant is available to Nebraska employers who provide students with valuable internship opportunities to retain students in the State of Nebraska at institutions of higher education, convert students to full-time employment, and attract workers to Nebraska by assisting businesses willing to provide paid internships.

The goals of the Department are:

  • To increase the overall numbers of internships in Nebraska
  • To retain students in the State of Nebraska at institutions of higher education
  • Attract workers to Nebraska
  • Convert students to full-time employment in Nebraska
  • Engage post-secondary education partners in program marketing to employers
  • Engage the underserved student/diverse population in internships

Bidders must be a Nebraska-based nonprofit entity with an established business presence in Nebraska and perform such services primarily from within Nebraska. The Department will give preference to Bidders with experience in grant administration.

Funding Information

InternNE grants can reimburse 50% of an intern’s wages, up to $5,000 per internship. If the intern is a federal Pell Grant recipient, InternNE can reimburse up to 75% of an intern’s wages, up to $7,500 per internship.

Is my business eligible for an InternNE grant?

  • Business and organizations that may receive support from an InternNE grant must:
    • Be located in Nebraska.
    • Be a for-profit company or a non-profit; government entities, as well as both public and private colleges and universities, are not eligible.

Are the internships DED wants to create eligible?

  • Internships receiving support from InternNE must employ a student who is either:
    • Is in eleventh or twelfth grade in a public or private high school; or
    • Is enrolled full-time in a college, university, or other institution of higher education; or
    • Applies for an internship within six months following graduation from a college, university, or other institution of higher education.
  • The internship should employ the student in a professional or technical position that:
    • Has a limited duration.
    • Provides valuable work experience and career knowledge.
    • Contributes to work on a short-term objective or project.
    • Pays at least the current state minimum wage.
