Dated: February 21, 2023

The Google.org AI for the Global Goals Call for Applications is now open to find organizations around the world that are using artificial intelligence (AI) to help accelerate progress against the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Donor Name: Google.org

Country: All Counties Expect some

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 03/17/2023

Size of the Grant: $2M

Details:

At Google, it is believed that artificial intelligence can provide new ways of approaching problems and meaningfully improve people’s lives. AI provides another tool to explore and address hard questions across all sectors of society – from quickly and accurately forecasting floods to connecting people in transition to education and job opportunities.

That’s why Google is excited to expand the commitment to launching and scaling AI tools that help organizations tackle some of the world’s biggest problems. Building off of Google.org’s previous investments in AI for Social Good, Google is launching an open call to find organizations around the world that are using AI to create new, innovative solutions to advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Global Goals

  • Goal 1: No Poverty.
  • Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
  • Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
  • Goal 4: Quality Education.
  • Goal 5: Gender Equality.
  • Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
  • Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
  • Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
  • Goal 10: Reduced Inequality.
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
  • Goal 13: Climate Action.
  • Goal 14: Life Below Water.
  • Goal 15: Life on Land.
  • Goal 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions.
  • Goal 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal.

Funding Information

  • Google.org is commiting $25M to fund solutions that accelerate progress towards the Global Goals.
  • There is no fixed amount to request. Historically, Google.org AI for Social Good funding amounts have ranged from $500k to $2M, with the median at $1.3M. Applying organizations must have the capacity to absorb a large amount of funding. Based on the type of project, Google.org will provide support through a combination of funding, product donations and technical expertise.

Project

Accelerating progress, with the help of AI.

  • As Google near the halfway point of the goals, it’s clear that the global community has made great strides. But the COVID-19 pandemic set back progress in many ways, and they still have a long way to go.
  • In Google’s work with nonprofits, universities, governments and others, Google has seen that AI can reduce the time and resources needed to make progress against some of the world’s toughest challenges. Learn more about how teams across Alphabet and Google.org funded organizations are already using AI to tackle the Global Goals.

Eligibility Criteria

The Call for Applications is open to any not-for-profit charity, other not-for-profit organization, public or private academic or research institution, or for-profit social enterprise company with a project that has an explicit charitable purpose. Your organization must have a registered office in your country of residence. Organizations located in Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR), or Syria and projects in those countries are not eligible to apply. Unfortunately, individuals without organizational affiliation are ineligible.
