The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is seeking opportunities to partner with and support the efforts of natural resource conservation partners in Connecticut.

Details:

The overall intent of this solicitation is to enter into partnerships to provide technical assistance and underlying support functions in the delivery, development, promotion, and support of soil, water and wildlife conservation programs to Connecticut’s farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners. Key technical assistance emphasis areas include Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry, Water Quality, and Wildlife. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Educate farmers, ranchers, and landowners in successful application of Farm Bill programs and/or
  • Deliver conservation planning, management, and implementation of climate smart conservation practices related to climate change mitigation and/or
  • Provide the underlying support functions necessary to maintaining conservation planning and delivery projects.

The purpose of the Connecticut Conservation Planning and Support Agreements is limited to the following emphasis areas listed below. Applications will only be considered for projects that propose to address at least one of these priorities:

  • Provide technical assistance in the delivery, development, promotion, and support of Farm Bill Conservation Programs to Connecticut’s farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners,
  • Partnerships will emphasize Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry, Water Quality, and/or Wildlife,
  • Coordinating, implementing, identifying, and clarifying technical requirements and programmatic opportunities between other potential partners in the state for advanced implementation of conservation practices in Connecticut.

Emphasis will be placed on projects that:

  • Build technical and/or support capacity to implement Farm Bill Conservation Programs.
  • Build technical capacity of NRCS and partner field conservation employees.
  • Build the capacity of local partners to develop and implement effective conservation projects.
  • Leverage non‐federal and non‐government resources to achieve positive natural resources conservation outcomes.

  • Estimated Total Program Funding: $2,000,000
  • Award Ceiling: $1,000,000
  • Award Floor: $250,000

Performance Periods

Projects may be between 1 and 5 years in duration.

Eligibility for this opportunity is limited to the following entity types:

  • City or township governments
  • Independent school districts
  • Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
  • Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
  • Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS (other than institutions of higher education)
  • Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS (other than institutions of higher education)
  • Private institutions of higher education
  • Public and State‐controlled institutions of higher education
  • Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
  • Special district governments
  • State governments
