To encourage conservation and stewardship of the natural environment and to promote music and the arts in the state of Maine.

The Onion Foundation’s arts grantmaking shows a commitment to paying artists, supporting arts organizations, and connecting people with the arts.

Environment

The Onion Foundation’s environmental grantmaking focuses on the conservation of land and water and the connection between people and nature.

  • Outdoor recreation and access to the outdoors
  • Climate change adaptation
  • Local, sustainable food access
  • Advocacy
  • Research and scientific inquiry

Funding Information

  • Spring Cycle Grant range between $5,000 and $20,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To apply for and receive a grant your organization must be a 501(c)(3) public charity as designated by the IRS, operating under a fiscal sponsor who is a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity, a public education institution, or a Maine municipality.
  • The organization and/or the project must be based in Maine and focused on benefitting Maine’s people.
